Flynn, who has spent the past 10 years as editor of the News and will continue in this role, has more than 31 years of journalism and public relations experience in the Adirondack Park. He will oversee all operations at the Saranac Lake office, where both newspapers are produced. Elizabeth Izzo will remain managing editor of the Enterprise.

“I am very happy and proud to be able to name Andy as our new publisher/editor of the Enterprise and Lake Placid News,” said Michael Bird, Ogden Newspapers regional publisher based in Jamestown. “Andy has been in the fabric of these communities for decades with a wealth of knowledge and involvement, and I am sure he will continue to do so for years. Saranac Lake, Lake Placid and Tupper Lake are three distinct communities with a very rich history, and we will continue to celebrate the people and happenings in the Tri-Lakes within our publications with Andy as the lead.”

Flynn succeeds Publisher Trevor Evans, who has taken a job at one of Ogden Newspapers’ publications in West Virginia.

“My vision is for the News and Enterprise to be the leading provider of news and information in the Tri-Lakes region for residents and visitors,” Flynn said. “At the same time, we offer a variety of print and digital marketing solutions for businesses in the region to help grow their customer base.”

Flynn is a 1987 graduate of Tupper Lake High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in communication from SUNY Fredonia in 1991, with a concentration in radio production and a minor in English.

He began his journalism career at North Country Public Radio as an independent documentary producer and a general assignment news reporter and made the transition to print journalism in 1994 as the Saranac Lake reporter for the Enterprise. Over the next seven years, he held several positions at Adirondack Publishing, including staff writer, city editor and managing editor at the Enterprise and staff writer and managing editor at the News.

In 2001, Flynn took a 12-year break from Adirondack Publishing, spending eight years as the senior public information specialist at the Adirondack Park Agency Visitor Interpretive Centers, a year working for himself and three years as the assistant managing editor of Denton Publications in Elizabethtown. He returned to the News in 2013.

“My heart is in the Tri-Lakes,” Flynn said. “I’ve lived and worked in all three villages, and I look forward to working with our talented staff to help build stronger communities here.”

The Enterprise, founded in 1895, is the only daily newspaper in the Adirondack Park. It covers the Tri-Lakes villages, surrounding hamlets and Adirondack issues. The News, founded in 1905, covers the Olympic Region towns of Jay, Keene, North Elba and Wilmington, as well as the village of Lake Placid.

“We will continue to keep our communities informed, inspired and engaged with news that is accurate, fair and as complete as possible,” Flynn said.

Both newspapers are proud members of the New York Press Association, and they publish a variety of special sections for residents and visitors, including Adirondack Living magazine, Embark Adirondack Adventure Guide, summer and winter editions of the Adirondack Vacation Guide, Arts in the Park, North Country Dining Guide and the Community Resource Directory.

Flynn is known for two popular newspaper columns: “Adirondack Attic,” which featured history-related stories about artifacts at the Adirondack Experience museum and was published in the News and Enterprise from 2003 to 2009; and “Lake Placid Diet,” which has tracked his weight-loss journey from 2014 to the present. He has written and self-published nine books with his own company, Hungry Bear Publishing, including the “Adirondack Attic” series, “Saranac Lake Winter Carnival Memories” and New York’s Adirondack Park: A User’s Guide.”

Flynn lives in Saranac Lake with his wife, Dawn.
