SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake boys and girls cross country teams wrapped up the regular season Tuesday at Dewey Mountain, with sweeps over the Plattsburgh Hornets, the Seton Catholic Knights and the AuSable Valley Patriots.

The Red Storm girls also took six of the top seven positions in their race, to defeat all three opponents by identical 15-50 scores. The Hornets, Knights and Patriots did not have enough girls runners to count toward the team scores.

The Saranac Lake boys squad placed five runners in the top 11 sports to seal a 25-32 victory over Plattsburgh. The Red Storm also topped Seton Catholic 21-40 and defeated AuSable Valley 15-50 — the Patriots had only four boys runners.

With the team wins, the Saranac Lake girls moved to 15-2 on the season — with its lone two losses to Saranac Central — while the boys improved to 15-5. Both teams will compete in the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference championships at Camp Dudley in Westport on Saturday, then in the Section VII championships at the Cobble Hill Golf Course in Elizabethtown on Friday, Nov. 3.

The Red Storm’s Asa Bruno won the girls race on Tuesday in a time of 19 minutes and 54 seconds. Saranac Lake teammates Phoebe Peer and Addi Ash ran together, finishing in 21:24 to claim the second and third-place spots. Cadence Kennedy followed behind in fourth place for the Red Storm in 21:25.

Plattsburgh’s Elizabeth Chase (22:31) placed fifth, Saranac Lake’s Lila Zobel (22:37) was sixth and Red Storm teammate Nelle Aaron (23:43) was seventh.

AuSable Valley’s top finisher was Emma Pelkey (24:30) in eighth and Bella Spiegel (24:58) was the top Knights finisher, placing ninth.

Saranac Lake was rounded out by Sabine Denkenberger (25:49) in 11th, Maggie Reed (27:29) in 16th and Lauryn Caldwell (30:43) in 20th.

The Red Storm’s Jake Kollmer won the boys race in 16:47. Kollmer has placed first in all eight league meets this season. The Hornets’ Connor Duda placed second in 17:26 and AuSable Valley’s Colton Dupuis was third in 17:46. Saranac Lake’s Sam Bickford (17:48) and Seton Catholic’s Max Grafstein (18:00) rounded out the top five, placing fourth and fifth, respectively.

After Bickford’s finish two Plattsburgh runners crossed the finish line. However, the Red Storm trio of Sam Madden (18:25 in ninth), Max Hall (18:25 in 10th) and Keaton Daley (18:33 in 11th) finished before the Hornets had a fourth runner cross the finish line to earn the victory.

The Red Storm was rounded out by Sage Kite-Whidden (21:16) in 24th and Sam Clark (22:11) in 26th.
