SARANAC LAKE — On Wednesday, Sept. 20, Mercy Care for the Adirondacks and the SL Hot House hosted a Build and Learn terrarium workshop at the garden center’s location in Saranac Lake.

Mercy Care volunteers and elder friends created and learned how to care for terrariums under the guidance of knowledgeable SL Hot House staff.

Mercy Care’s mission is to enhance in every dimension the fullness of life of elders living in this community.

“Creativity in Aging events like this one are designed to offer the elders we serve with community engagement opportunities while also providing space to socialize,” said Mercy Care Program Director Lexi Bevilacqua.

Mercy Care hosts Creativity in Aging programs throughout the year in the Tri-Lakes area. They are open to all Mercy Care volunteers, parish nurses, elder friends, as well as Mercy Care’s Mission Extension Partners’ volunteers and elder friends.

“Looking around at the beautiful space the Hot House created for us and seeing all these smiles — that’s what it’s all about,” said Katherine Rhodes, Mercy Care’s elder care manager.

The next Mercy Care Friendship Volunteer Training Program is scheduled for Oct. 4 in Saranac Lake.

Those interested in becoming a Mercy Care Friendship Volunteer or parish nurse, or those in need of the services of a Mercy Care volunteer, can call Rhodes at 518-523-5585, contact her by email at krhodes@adkmercy.org, or visit Mercy Care’s website at www.adkmercy.org.
