ORDA plans fall festivals at Olympic venues

LAKE PLACID — The state Olympic Regional Development Authority recently announced the return of two upcoming fall festivals on back-to-back weekends — Oktoberfest and the Flaming Leaves Festival — and the World Figure and Fancy Skating Championships.

Oktoberfest will be held on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 at the Whiteface Mountain Ski Center in Wilmington.

Featuring live music, dancing, food and beer, this event is a long-standing tradition welcoming fall visitors in authentic Alpine style. Hours will be 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Oktoberfest offers children’s activities, including face painting, carnival rides, arts and crafts, balloon animals, and the Whiteface Adventure Zone, all of which are featured each day of the festival.

One-day entry is $18 for adults or $35 with a gondola ride if purchased online. A two-day package is $50 online and includes the gondola ride and a 1-liter stein with a Spaten beer coupon. Seniors ages 65 and over can purchase one-day admission tickets online for $15 while juniors 12 and under are admitted for free. Tickets will also be available at the gate. Season passholders can attend Oktoberfest for free on Sunday. Tickets and further details can be found at whiteface.com.

Flaming Leaves Festival

The Flaming Leaves Festival will be held from Oct. 6 to 8 at the Olympic Jumping Complex in Lake Placid.

North America’s top ski jumpers will battle for podium finishes over three days during the men’s Continental Cup and women’s Intercontinental Cup. In addition to elite athletes soaring off the HS 128-meter ski jump, spectators can enjoy festival activities that will include live music, food and beverage vendors, and activities for the whole family. This weekend often coincides with the peak of the fall foliage.

General admission is $20 for a single day or $40 for all three days for those between ages 13 and 64. Ages 7-12 and 65-plus are admitted for $15 per day or $30 for all three days, while those 6 and under are free. Sky Ride and Sky Flyer zipline trips are also available for purchase. Entry is free for 2023/24 SKI3 Season passholders. Tickets and a detailed festival schedule are available online at olympicjumpingcomplex.com.

World Figure and Fancy Skating Championships

The World Figure and Fancy Skating Championships will be held from Oct. 4 to 8 at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid.

This international skating event blends the sport of figure skating with fine art, including performance, decorative, and recording arts, to offer a unique combination of a world-class skating competition and cultural celebration with a festival atmosphere. The event will include an Art of the Olympians exhibit and other fine arts. All skating competitions and art exhibits are open to the public with complimentary admission. All spectators and attendees are asked to register in advance. For more information, visit lakeplacidolympiccenter.com.
