LONG LAKE — The town of Long Lake Parks and Recreation Department recently announced the opening of Art in Nature, an outdoor art installation featuring 11 local Long Lake artists.

Long Lake artists were invited to paint a subject of their choice, which included, but was not limited to, landscapes, local views, wildlife, abstract or artistic choice. The original artwork will be displayed in the community at various locations for residents and visitors to find while out recreating, sightseeing, hiking, walking, or biking.

The immediate accessibility to the outdoors is what sets Adirondack communities apart, and by moving art into nature the exhibition will offer an unexpected perspective and connect man-made art to natural features in the environment.

This fall, the paintings can be seen at the Mt. Sabattis Recreation Area, the Long Lake Town Beach, the Long Lake Transfer Station, the Long Lake Medical Center, the nature trail, the Long Lake Cemetery, Shaw Pond, the Buttercup, the Long Lake Bridge Overlook and the Long Lake Town Hall. The paintings will be out through much of October, then stored for the winter and put back on display in the spring of 2024.

Invited artists include Debbie Austin, Cindy Black, Matt Burnett, Melissa Burnett, Richard Chandler, Nancy Halter, Barbara Keough, Long Lake Central School Students, Sally Neenan, Jennifer Signell and Louisa Wright.

Maps of the tour will be available at the Long Lake Town Office Building at 1130 Deerland Road in the 24 hour brochure room.

The town of Long Lake received funds for this project through the statewide community regrants program administered by the Adirondack Lakes Center for Arts.
