Autopsy: Indian Lake man died by gunshots

Saranac Lake woman charged with murder, employer mourns loss

SARANAC LAKE — An autopsy report revealed that an Indian Lake man, whose body was discovered on Saturday, died of gunshot wounds, New York State Police announced Monday. His death has been ruled a homicide and a Saranac Lake woman has been charged with his murder.

Pathologist Michael Sikirica conducted an autopsy on 32-year-old David J. Chenier of Indian Lake on Monday at Glens Falls Hospital. Sikirica determined Chenier’s cause of death to be gunshot wounds to the chest and neck.

State Police say the investigation into his death is ongoing.

Ann M. Favro, 57, of Saranac Lake was charged by State Police with second-degree murder, a felony, after officers discovered the body of Chenier on Saturday.

Chenier’s body was found when State Police responded to a report of shots fired on Big Brook Road in Indian Lake at 8:12 p.m. on Saturday. Favro was pulled over and arrested during a traffic stop, according to State Police. She was arraigned in Indian Lake town court and remanded to the Hamilton County Jail in Lake Pleasant without bail.

Public posts on social media accounts belonging to Chenier and Favro indicate that the two knew one another and may have been related.

State Police were not immediately able to answer questions about how Chenier and Favro knew one another or exactly where Chenier’s body was found because of the ongoing investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call State Police at 518-873-2750.

Chenier was an employee at Elkin Tree Service. On Monday, company owner Kevin Elkin made a public social media post, writing that their work family has suffered an “irreplaceable and devastating loss.”

“He was like a son to me and it’s going to be difficult picking up the pieces and moving forward,” Elkin wrote. “He loved anything to do with a chainsaw. He was a talented timber feller and was quickly honing his skills, doing complicated aerial removals.”

Elkin said Chenier had worked with him for six years and three months.

“He quickly became intertwined in our lives and a cornerstone of my company,” Elkin wrote. “We are diminished. As a family. As a community. As a company. Rest in peace brother.”
