Lake Placid Institute announces schedule of summer events

LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid Institute will open the summer season on July 11 with its annual summer fundraiser.

It’s Summer: The Party will be held at the Whiteface Club & Resort Moose Lodge from 6 to 8 p.m. and will include an open bar, hors d’oeuvres, and a silent auction. Admission is $100 per person. Tickets can be purchased online at lakeplacidinstitute.org.

In partnership with the Lake Placid Center for the Arts, the Institute will once again offer the popular John C. Bogle Roundtable Series. The Saturday morning breakfast presentations begin at 8:30 and will be held at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts Annex. Breakfast will be provided by Saranac Sourdough. Admission is $25 in advance, $30 at the door, and $10 for students. Tickets should be purchased from the Lake Placid Center for the Arts box office at lakeplacidarts.org.

On Saturday, July 22, critically acclaimed novelist Stephen Kiernan (“Universe of Two” and “The Baker’s Secret”) will discuss his new novel, “The Glass Chateau.” Set in France in the turbulent aftermath of the Second World War, Kiernan’s latest work is a gripping tale of hope, healing, and the redemptive power of art. Copies of the book will be available for purchase.

On Saturday, July 29, Bill McColgan, CEO of Mountain Lake PBS, will discuss the current media landscape and how best to process the news cycle. Bill’s perspective comes from 25-plus years in media leadership, television production, and partnership development. After the presentation, all are welcome to see Dressing the Abbey, the costumes of Downton Abbey, in the LPCA Gallery.

The series will conclude on Aug. 5, with a conversation between Lake Placid’s Andrew Weibrecht and the New York Ski Education Foundation. The World Cup Alpine ski racer and two-time Olympic medalist honed his racing skills on the slopes of Whiteface Mountain, and will take us behind the scenes of his athletic training and career path.
