Senior outing club heads to Vermont

SARANAC LAKE — This month’s Saranac Village at Will Rogers Senior Outing Club’s event will be a visit to the Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge in Swanton, Vermont. The Missisquoi NWR was established in 1943 to provide wetland habitat for migratory birds. It consists of 6,729 acres, mostly of wetland habitats, which support a variety of birds and other wildlife. It was designated a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance in 2013. We will be walking on mostly flat trails, but they may be wet. Please wear sturdy footwear, outdoor gear for the elements and bring walking poles if desired. Sun hats and bug repellant also recommended.

The Senior Outing Club is open to all seniors, ages 55 and older, interested in venturing out for moderate activity at various locations around the area. Activities are held on the last Tuesday of the month. The club’s mission is to “offer seniors the chance to enjoy outdoor adventures with companionship, safety and fun.”

Attendees must be vaccinated for COVID-19. Departure from Will Rogers will be at 10 a.m. on May 30, with a lunch scheduled at the Cattlebarn Pub and Grill in Chazy. Reservations must be made by calling 518-891-7117 or emailing Debbie Kanze at activities@saranacvillage.com.
