Janet said their son lives in Ireland and gave them the flag. Their family has a bit of Irish heritage, but it was love that drew him to the country. Mike said his son met an Irish girl while on leave from the Navy and followed her back to the Emerald Isle. Mike and Janet now have four grandkids over there, too. Janet said back in the day, their former next door neighbors on one side came right from Derry, Ireland and their neighbors on the other always flew the Irish flag. “It was like the whole street was Irish,” she said.
