The show will open with a reception on Friday, Feb. 3, from 5-8 p.m., and will run through March 14.

Burpoe is an Adirondack artist, born and raised in Saranac Lake. A 2013 graduate of Saranac Lake High School, Burpoe enjoys painting expressive images of the area he grew up in. He studied graphic design at the Rochester Institute of Technology, graduating Summa Cum Laude in 2017. In 2020, Burpoe fell in love with watercolor painting during the initial quarantining stage of the pandemic when he lived alone and yearned for a form of escapism. He found peace of mind each night by painting the tranquil lakes and dynamic mountains of the Adirondacks in his dining room. In his first solo show he seeks to convey the unique feelings the Adirondacks give him, especially around Winter Carnival, which he participated in as a member of the Carnival Court in 2013.

Burpoe’s show is titled “Hearth,” a reflection on the warmth and comfort friends may find around the fireplace where stories are shared and the winter cold is forgotten.

A majority of the reference photos for Burpoe’s paintings were taken by his mother, Sue Cherny, while out walking with his father, Tim Burpoe, in the Adirondack region of New York that he grew up in. These paintings portray Burpoe’s love of the quiet beauty that can be found in the place that he calls home.

The Adirondack Artists Guild is a cooperative retail art gallery located at 52 Main St., Saranac Lake, 518 891-2615. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m., and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sundays.
