Public input sought for Saranac Lake revitalization project

SARANAC LAKE — The village of Saranac Lake is inviting community members, business owners and other stakeholders to participate in a public open house next week.

The open house is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 15 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Harrietstown Town Hall Auditorium, 39 Main St. The purpose of the event is to collect public input on a range of projects that have been proposed in connection with an update of the Local Waterfront Revitalization Program.

The community will have an opportunity to learn about and provide feedback on proposed projects through a series of stations in the auditorium. Village staff, project advisory committee members and consultant team members will be on hand to discuss the projects and answer questions. Attendees can drop in any time during the event as no formal presentation is planned. All community members and those utilizing the waterfront are encouraged to participate.

The village of Saranac Lake has begun the process of updating its Local Waterfront Revitalization Program to guide appropriate development and investment. The LWRP will outline the village’s vision for its waterfront areas and underscore a program for achieving that vision. The LWRP will promote public access to recreational opportunities, identify sustainable approaches to mitigate climate change impacts, stimulate economic development, and plan connection to and between recreational amenities and downtown. This process is supported with funding provided by the New York state Department of State under Title 11 of the Environmental Protection Fund.

In addition to the open house event, the public is invited to submit input via an online projects questionnaire, accessible via the village website and active from Dec. 15 until Jan.15, 2023. Members of the public will be also able to access the projects questionnaire on smart phones or tablets using a Quick Response (QR) code printed on promotional cards and flyers.

The LWRP is being developed by the village of Saranac Lake and guided by a Waterfront Advisory Committee. The process is being facilitated by a consultant team led by M.J. Engineering and Land Surveying, P.C. and supported by CLA Site Landscape Architecture, Engineering and Planning and Shumaker Engineering.
