Sisters Trish Friedlander (right) and Diana Friedlander have made playtime in Lake Placid’s Peacock Park more inclusive and accessible for neurodivergent children and adults with a newly-installed “communication board.” People using the board can point to a symbol on the board to express a need or a want to someone they’re with, like a parent. Trish got the idea as she walked through Peacock with Diana, who said she thought the idea was “genius.” The board was installed at the end of September, just in time for International Augmentative and Alternative Communication Awareness month, held every October. Trish and Diana are seen here with the board on Tuesday.
