‘Turning Color’ on display at NorthWind through July

SARANAC LAKE — NorthWind Fine Arts’ new exhibit, “Turning Color,” is opening next month.

Featuring a collaborative exhibit of new pieces by woodworker Damon Hartman and painter Catherine Hartung, the exhibit will be on display at the gallery throughout July.

Damon Hartman is one of the gallery’s newest members and is a forester by day, and a woodturner by night. He specializes in local wood with character, prefers natural, nontoxic finishes, and he likes to say that the wood is the art–he just turns it. His stunning bowls, platters, vases and urns are fine architectural accent pieces.

Catherine Hartung’s art is colorful, whimsical at times, and exactingly done. She captures the magic of the forest, flowers, and the more “diminutive” forest life. Hartung’s new work for her collaboration with Hartman began with a focus on tree images, but grew to include wildflowers and broader landscape designs.

The NorthWid Fine Arts gallery is located at 85 Main St., Saranac Lake. The gallery is open daily in July and August, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

For those interested in meeting the artists: Hartman will be sitting at the gallery July 4, July 16-17 and July 30. Hartung will be at the gallery on July 2, July 8 and July 13.
