Tackling the tackle problem

This week is New York Invasive Species Awareness Week, and representatives from the Adirondack Watershed Institute, the Adirondack Park Invasive Plant Program, the Ausable River Association and the Adirondack Center for Loon Conservation participated in an awareness-raising event at the Lake Flower Boat Launch on Wednesday afternoon. ACLC staff Jen Denny (left) and Hannah Pryor were teaching people about the dangers of lead fishing tackles. While the tackles aren’t technically an invasive plant species, anglers introduce the poisonous tackles to Adirondack waters. Lead tackles can slowly poison and kill loons over the course of a few weeks if ingested. (Enterprise photo — Lauren Yates)
