Route 55 roadwork begins

FRANKLIN — The Franklin County Highway Department will start roadwork on county Route 55 this week.

After receiving clearance from the Adirondack Park Agency and the state Department of Environmental Conservation, the department will be working on a 2.5 mile section of county Route 55 in the towns of Brighton and Franklin. The scope of work will include replacement of existing cross culverts, cleaning of ditches, and the shoulders of the road will be graded to allow for drainage. After all drainage issues are resolved, the department plans to resurface that the section of Route 55.

There will be temporary scheduled closings while the department works on the road to allow for the replacement of certain pipe crossings, the majority of this work will be performed with lane closures and flagging operations to control traffic. Construction is scheduled to be completed at the end of August. The department is asking that drivers be patient and cautious when traveling through work areas this summer.
