Wilmington Notch roadwork upcoming

The state Department of Transportation plans to close a stretch of state Route 86 between North Elba and Wilmington — the Wilmington Notch — for one night next week as road crews work on drainage repairs.

Drainage work along state Route 86 resumed earlier this month, with flaggers controlling alternating lanes of traffic as crews work during the day. The DOT announced in a press release Thursday that part of state Route 86 will be completely closed from River Road, county Route 21 to Fox Farm Road, county Route 63 from Wednesday, June 1, at 8 p.m. through Thursday, June 2, at 6 a.m.

Traffic that night will be redirected to a signed detour that uses state Route 73 to Keene, Route 9N to Jay and Route 86 to Wilmington. Once Route 86 reopens on June 2, motorists can expect flaggers to continue directing one-way traffic as work proceeds during weekday hours for the next several weeks.
