Housing Task Force vote is tonight

SARANAC LAKE — The village board will vote today on whether or not to create a new Housing Task Force.

The new Housing Task Force would be a successor to the village housing work group, which completed its housing recommendations earlier this year. This task force would have the goal of suggesting which of the work group’s recommendations to implement.

Village Mayor Jimmy Williams said this new task force on housing will be an “amazingly wonderful” advancement.

“Everybody in the village realizes it’s a problem,” Williams said. “I think some great people volunteered.”

He said some members who were selected will provide continuity across the two groups, and some members will bring new, valuable skills and innovative ideas.

Williams said he expects to see a mixture of solutions coming out of the task force. He hopes to put these solutions into place as soon as possible.

“I think it’s going to be on the village board to be the doers,” Williams said Friday.

Williams ran on a platform of mending broken relationships between the village and property owners. He said he’s making progress on fixing some of those relationships.

If approved, the resolution the village board will vote on today would designate Melinda Little as the task force’s coordinator. Little led the working group from her previous position on the village board. She ran for village mayor in the March election where Williams was elected by voters.

Other task force members on the list include Sarah Clarkin, Ben Douglass, Brian Draper, Steve Erman, Stephen Ferruzza, Jodi Gunther, Joe Gladd, Renee Hochwald and Trevor Jackson.

The village board meets tonight at 5:30 p.m.
