‘Light Up the Town’ contest returns

SARANAC LAKE — Get ready to deck the halls — or your storefront and home. The Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting its Light Up the Town contest again this year.

The Chamber of Commerce is encouraging business owners and homeowners to sign up for its festive holiday competition.

As businesses and homeowners show off their seasonal spirit, creating festive destinations for locals and visitors, they also have the opportunity to win prizes.

The deadline to register is Dec. 10. Voting is done by the community from Dec. 15 through Jan. 1. All event information can be found at www.slareachamber.org/lightupthetown.

The event, sponsored by Northern Power & Light and Saranac Lake Community Solar, started last year during a holiday season altered by the coronavirus pandemic. The chamber now says it plans to make it an annual event.

“We hope the event continues to offer a safe way to enjoy the area while also offering an opportunity to enjoy the downtown area, not only to look at lights and decorations, but to shop at our local businesses, eat at our restaurants and enjoy a variety of holiday events,” Chamber Executive Director Rachel Karp wrote in a statement. “There will be a selfie challenge and scavenger hunt as well for additional fun.”
