LONG LAKE — The Long Lake Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department announced Thursday the opening of a skatepark at the Geiger Arena, inside the ice skating area at the Mount Sabattis Recreation Area.

The new ramps and rails are manufactured by Freshpark and are designed for use by any non-motorized piece of equipment, including skateboards, roller blades, scooters and bikes. The new skatepark will be open from dawn until 10:30 p.m. and is free to use.

The town thanked Trisha Hosley for spearheading this idea and providing the research on the best options to get this park installation underway. The town board approved the project.

Equipment includes four quarterpipes, safety rails, launch ramps, a fun box and a grind kit.

The rules are posted at the rink as the area is not monitored by staff. Anyone using the park should wear protective gear, including helmets, wrist and knee protectors. No motorized equipment, alcohol or smoking is allowed. Anyone 9 or under must be supervised by an adult. Users are asked to report any broken equipment or safety issues by calling Parks and Recreation at 518-624-3077 ext. 113
