Bookstore restarts events launching Messner’s work on Fauci

LAKE PLACID — For the first time since the start of the pandemic, The Bookstore Plus will host a book launch celebration on a fitting subject — Kate Messner’s newest book, “Dr. Fauci: How a Boy from Brooklyn Became America’s Doctor.”

The sidewalk signing will coincide with the book’s release date on Tuesday, June 29 and will last from 3 to 5 p.m. outside the bookstore at 2491 Main St., downtown Lake Placid.

Messner’s “Dr. Fauci” is a picture book biography of Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and one of the most crucial figures in the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It’s the perfect title for our first step back into events since the pandemic began,” said Sarah Galvin, co-owner of The Bookstore Plus. “We typically host lots of sidewalk events, but we have not held an in-person event since the COVID outbreak. We are looking forward to being outside and introducing people to Kate’s newest book.”

This narrative, which draws from interviews the author did with Fauci himself, follows him from his Brooklyn beginnings through medical school and his challenging role working with seven U.S. presidents to tackle some of the biggest public health challenges of the past 50 years, including the COVID-19 pandemic. Extensive back matter rounds out Fauci’s story with a timeline, recommended reading, a spread of facts about vaccines and how they work, and Fauci’s own tips for future scientists.
