LAKE PLACID — Four short music education videos are now available to local music educators thanks to the Lake Placid Sinfonietta’s Education Committee, with support from the Glenn and Carol Pearsall Adirondack Foundation.

The videos, created and presented by Sinfonietta percussionist Tony Oliver and trumpeter Steven Franklin, cover topics of music composition, the specifics of pitched percussion instruments, and the concept of timbre, a word used by musicians to describe the tonal colorings that make instruments sound different from each other.

Area music teachers were surveyed prior to the creation of these videos to ensure that the subject matter would be useful in their classrooms. The videos are also available for anyone to watch on the Lake Placid Sinfonietta’s YouTube channel under “LPS Education Videos” (https://tinyurl.com/5xd3w2m9).

The Lake Placid Sinfonietta’s 2021 summer season will run from July through Aug. 15 with concerts on Wednesday and Sunday evenings. In addition to limited, in-person attendance, concerts will be livestreamed over the internet. Complete program information and schedule will be announced soon.
