Common Ground Alliance opens Winter Meeting registration

LAKE PLACID — The Common Ground Alliance and Northern Forest Center’s free, virtual, one-hour winter meeting will be held Thursday, March 25 at 12:30 p.m. over Zoom.

Advance registration is required at https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_2ucnk9vdQe66hbT_xINi6A.

Attendees will be updated on progress made since the 2020 CGA Annual Forum in July, and the organizers will present their final strategy for attracting new residents to the Adirondacks.

A panel of residents from Millinocket, Maine, will discuss solutions they’ve found to similar challenges.

There will be an update on the 2021 “Blueprint for the Blue Line.”

The July forum focused on attracting new residents to the Adirondacks, with 98% of participants agreeing that “Attracting new residents — particularly younger ones — to the Adirondacks is a necessary and positive thing for the region.”

The CGA pointed out that a third of the participants at the forum were under 45 years old.

The CGA says its strategy its to invite the people who, due to the pandemic, have a newfound ability to work remotely and who treasure the chance to spend time outside, in small communities and in the fresh air of the Adirondacks.

Highlighted solutions from the July forum include forming welcoming groups and social groups, making information about events and jobs more accessible, investing in walkable downtown areas, making quality rental housing more accessible, and partnering with the Adirondack Diversity Initiative to ensure communities are safe and welcoming for all.
