Lake Placid school board has open seats in May

LAKE PLACID — There are three open seats on the Lake Placid Central School Board of Education for the election this May.

Those positions are currently held by Daniel Cash, Colleen Locke and Martha Pritchard Spear.

Cash, a senior designer at the Regional Office of Sustainable Tourism, was appointed Sept. 1, 2020, to fill a vacancy on the board left by the resignation of Jeffrey Brownell.

Locke, a Lake Placid school alumna and longtime owner-operator of the Kids “R” Us early learning center in Saranac Lake, was appointed to the school board in March 2018 and elected two months later.

Spear, an active Lake Placid Rotarian who shifted from a career as a fundraising consultant to being an MBA graduate student, was also elected in 2018.

Two of the seats are for three-year terms, and one (Cash’s) is for the two-year remainder of a term. Of the three school board members elected, the one with the lowest amount of votes will take over the partial term.

Other members of the board are Rick Preston, Daniel Marvin, Joan Hallett-Valentine and Bryan “Liam” Kennelly.

Petitions to run are due by 4 p.m. April 19. The election is May 18, and the proposed 2021-22 school budget will also be up for a vote.
