Larry Sweeney, with 1-year-old daughter Megan, takes a ride down a slide at the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival Ice Palace in 1988. When Megan grew up, she became a World Cup luge racer who competed in the 2010 Winter Olympics. Larry said this Ice Palace slide was her introduction to sliding but that “It was so cold, you stuck to it.” Megan’s younger sister Emily is still a World Cup luger who competed in the 2018 Winter Olympics is currently competing in Europe.
