No gas at Keene Stewart’s for now

The Stewart’s Shop in Keene stopped selling gasoline on Wednesday, when this photo was taken, while crews finish building a new store behind the current store. The number of gas nozzles will double to eight when the new pumps open up, which is expected to be Nov. 24, two days before Thanksgiving, a store associate said Wednesday morning. Diesel and kerosene will be added. The new store will be 4,020 square feet, much larger than the current one, which will be torn down. The space will be used for parking. It was not only the only place in the town of Keene to buy gas; it was the only place on state Route 73 between Interstate 87 and Lake Placid. The closest places to get gas now are Jay, Lake Placid and Wilmington. (Provided photo — Naj Wikoff)
