This vacant bank building, seen Wednesday on Main Street, Saranac Lake, is being sold at auction online in late October. As the banner says, the building will be opened for public inspection Friday, Oct. 2, and bidding will be Oct. 26 to 28 at auctionnetwork.com, with an opening bid set at $175,000. This was most recently a branch of Key Bank and before that First Niagara, HSBC, Marine Midland and Adirondack National banks. Adirondack National’s ornate stone and glass facade was bricked over by Marine Midland in the early 1960s, but many locals believe the old facade may still exist behind the brick wall.
