Elizabethtown hospital adds 6 COVID testing sites

ELIZABETHTOWN — Elizabethtown Community Hospital is now offering by-appointment COVID-19 testing at its health centers in Wilmington, AuSable Forks, Elizabethtown, Westport, Willsboro and Crown Point.

By-appointment testing was previously offered during dedicated hours at the hospital’s emergency departments in Elizabethtown and Ticonderoga. Appointments at these locations may be scheduled if deemed medically necessary and outside normal health center hours.

Patients may schedule testing appointments by calling 518-873-3134.

Julie Tromblee, vice president and chief nursing officer for ECH, said patients can get tested without leaving their vehicles if they don’t need to go inside for a doctor or nurse visit.

Test results for symptomatic patients and those who require testing in advance of a medical procedure typically take two to four days, and results for patients without symptoms currently take five to 10 days, ECH said. In line with New York State Department of Health guidelines, testing and processing are prioritized for those at greatest risk including people with COVID-like symptoms, a known exposure to a confirmed case, and essential workers.

Whether a patient must pay for a COVID-19 test at ECH depends on the patient’s insurance plan and whether the test is medically necessary. The self-pay charge for COVID-19 testing is $150. Patients are encouraged to contact their insurance provider to determine benefit coverage.

“It’s clear that diagnostic testing is key to controlling the spread of COVID-19,” Tromblee said in a press release, “and we want to make it easier for people to get a test when they need one. So we have added six additional locations and a dedicated number for scheduling.”

All six health centers are open Monday through Friday, and the Elizabethtown Community Health Center offers Saturday hours. ECH is part of the University of Vermont Health Network.
