Tupper Arts postpones remainder of Summer Sunset Series to 2021

TUPPER LAKE — Tupper Arts will be postponing its 2020 Summer Sunset Series until 2021. The Tupper Arts Board of Directors made this decision over concerns of creating overcrowding during the current pandemic and other considerations.

The board had already canceled the July 3 performance of the band Late Earth, as well as Rez Pony, a rock band from Akwesasne that was to have performed on Monday. Other performances scheduled in the Series were the Blind Owl Band, the Big Takeover, Spring Street Band, Shakespeare in the Parks, Martin and Kelly, High Peaks Opera, Geo Beat and Annie and the Hedonists. All of the artists booked for the current season will be asked to be part of the 2021 lineup.

Tupper Arts also had postponed its 2020 Little Loggers Kids’ Shows. All six of the acts in this series will also be rescheduled for 2021.

Tupper Arts is currently still going ahead with its arts shows, exhibits, and gift-shop reopening at the Tupper Arts Center, 106 Park St., with the board committed to following all guidelines set forth by the state of New York for complying with social distancing, contact tracing, and other required measures. A tentative opening date is scheduled for July 15.

Tupper Arts tentatively plans to reopen its gift shop and gallery on July 15 if all required metrics are met for phase four reopening. Hours will be noon to 4 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday. The July 15 opening date is contingent on no new upswings in COVID-19 infection rates, the continued availability of testing for the virus and antibodies, sufficient contact tracing, and the availability of personal protective equipment for staff and volunteers.

Due to the delayed opening date, Tupper Arts will combine the Annual Tupper Lake Art Show and the Adirondack Woodcrafts Show to run from July 15-30. Submissions are still being accepted for both exhibits.
