LPCA’s free Young & Fun Anywhere performance series arrives in August

LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid Center for the Arts is bringing back the Free Young & Fun Performance Series, virtually.

Young & Fun Anywhere can go anywhere that Zoom can go. Audience members can watch from a computer, tablet or phone.

“The Young & Fun summer series of shows has become such a treasured part of our summer programming at LPCA,” says Tara Palen, LPCA director of education and outreach. “When our doors shut and we learned we could not safely do indoor performances this summer, I was so sad about disappointing the kids. So it was indeed thrilling to hear that two of our scheduled performers, Gary the Great and David Engel’s Pirate School, were able to adapt their shows to a Zoom platform. It’s so exciting that kids can still have the joy of a live performance right on their laptops.”

The schedule is as follows:

• Aug. 12, 10:30 a.m. — Gary the Great is a magician with a high-energy mix of magic, comedy, and juggling. This highly improvised show has lots of audience participation.

• Aug. 19, 10:30 a.m. — Pirate School! is a solo show created and performed by veteran New York actor David Engel. This interactive show satisfies children’s universal curiosity for briny buccaneers of yore while promoting everyday polite behavior and social courage.

Online registration is required for both performances to receive a link to enter the performance on Zoom. There is a suggested $10 donation per log-in (per family). For more, see www.lakeplacidarts.org.

The LPCA’s Free Young & Fun Series is sponsored by Dr. David Balestrini and Lake Placid Family Dental. The series is funded in part by the New York State Council on the Arts, Lake Placid Education Foundation, Bruce L. Crary Foundation, Carol Nevulis and Stewart’s Shops.
