LPCA August events can help in pandemic summer

LAKE PLACID — Want to have fun and be safe in this pandemic summer? The Lake Placid Center for the Arts can help. LPCA has several August events that families can enjoy while following ongoing COVID-19 health and safety precautions.

On Aug. 1 at 7:30 p.m. will be a live, drive-in concert at the North Elba Show Grounds at 5514 Cascade Road in Lake Placid. The Uprooted Band, featuring Michael Glabicki of Rusted Root, will perform the multi-platinum album “When I Woke” in its entirety, part of a 25th-anniversary tour. Tickets for Uprooted are $55 per car. Chairs and picnics will be allowed within designated parking spaces and a full list of details about the event can be found on the LPCA website.

A second live, drive-in concert will take place on Aug. 18 at 7 p.m. in collaboration with Songs at Mirror Lake. Farewell Angelina, an all-female country group, will perform a free concert at the North Elba Show Grounds in Lake Placid.

Virtual programs for August include this summer’s Young & Fun Anywhere series, which brings the annual free performance series for children online. This year, families can log on from anywhere Zoom can go to participate in Young & Fun programs on Wednesday mornings at 10:30 a.m. Families should sign up in advance online to receive the Zoom log-in information. These events include:

Aug. 5 — Painting with Unusual Tools (a hands-on art class)

Aug. 12 — Gary the Great (magic, comedy and juggling)

Aug. 19 — Pirate School (an interactive pirate escapade that promotes manners and social courage).

Finally, comedy troupe The Second City will bring improv straight to your couch with their virtual performance Improv House Party on Aug. 28 at 7:30 p.m. The cost is $25 per log-in, which covers you and anyone in your household who will be sharing your screen.

Tickets and event registration can be found online at lakeplacidarts.org. Patrons can find online events under “Virtual Experiences” and in-person activities like drive-in concerts listed under “In-Person Events.” Call 518-523-2512 for more information.
