UPPER SARANAC LAKE — The interdenominational Island Chapel on Upper Saranac Lake to be closed all this summer season, organizers announced “with regret” Wednesday.
“This difficult decision was made by the Chapel Committee, volunteers who operate and maintain the chapel,” their press release said. “In light of the coronavirus restrictions, it was decided that it would not be advisable to hold services this summer. We will miss all of the regular attenders and visitors to the Chapel, and are planning that June 27, 2021 will be a fresh and safe restart. For any updates you can visit our website, Chapelisland.org, or our Facebook page.”
The services on Chapel Island are distinct to the Adirondacks. A pontoon boat, the Chapel Bound, ferries churchgoers between the island and a dock at the south end of the large lake. Ministers of various Christian denominations lead the Sunday services on a rotating basis.
