State police shooting update

MORIAH — State police have identified the officers and suspect involved in an officer-involved shooting which occurred Saturday and resulted in the suspect being airlifted to the University of Vermont Medical Center for treatment and more than one trooper suffering minor injuries after the suspect allegedly rammed their patrol vehicles.

The suspect has been identified as Jason G. Shaw, 33, of Moriah. He is currently in stable condition at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington.

The officers involved in the shooting have been identified as Trooper Christopher Markwica and Trooper Adam Duquette, both of the Lewis state police station. They have both been treated and released for minor injuries.

Police say charges are pending Shaw’s release from the hospital, but did not say what charges.

Police said troopers were called to Lamos Lane shortly after 11 a.m. after a report that Shaw threatened to harm an acquaintance, and were at the scene when he arrived in a vehicle.

Police said Shaw then rammed both patrol vehicles, totaling one and damaging the other, before attempting to run over them with his vehicle.

Police said the troopers then fired shots from their division-issued firearms at Shaw’s vehicle, striking him.
