Substation malfunction cuts power temporarily in Saranac Lake
SARANAC LAKE — About 950 National Grid customers in southwestern Saranac Lake lost electricity for about two hours and 20 minutes Thursday morning.
The outage began around 6 a.m. and was caused by an equipment malfunction at the Lake Colby substation, according to company spokesperson Virginia Limmiatis.
“That’s why such a large number of customers were affected,” she said.
The company had predicted on its online outage map that power would be restored around 9:15 a.m., but it was actually more like 8:30.
Separately in nearby Bloomingdale, National Grid had informed customers of a planned outage Thursday, which began around 9 a.m. and lasted about 45 minutes.
