Food pantry need rises

The Rev. John Yonkovig comes out of the basement at St. Agnes Catholic Church Friday morning, carrying household items from the Lake Placid Ecumenical Food Pantry to the garage, which was being used to store food pantry items as patrons were picking them up. Due to the coronavirus outbreak, food pantry coordinator Linda Young, middle, and volunteers decided to set up a curbside pick-up service instead of having people pick up their items in the basement. In all, 50 families picked up food and supplies Friday, compared to 17 families who were served a week earlier. Young said she expects more people to use the food pantry in the near future during the pandemic due to job losses. The food pantry is open from 9 a.m. to noon Fridays.
