SL may lease office space to Waterfront Lodge managers

SARANAC LAKE — Skyward Hospitality, the company set to manage the Saranac Waterfront Lodge, is considering leasing space from the village at 3 Main St., the old village offices.

The space is on the third floor, and is 2,457 square feet. Village Manager John Sweeney said Skyward Hospitality would use it as general office space. Rent was set at $1,800 per month.

The village Board of Trustees approved the lease with two amendments at Monday night’s meeting. The original contract called for a five-year lease and six months notice before eviction. The board shortened those to one year and three months, respectively.

In a phone interview Thursday, Deputy Mayor Rich Shapiro said the board shortened the lease agreement from five years to one year because it gives the village more flexibility in case it wanted to renegotiate the rent.

In a phone interview Thursday, Skyward Hospitality COO Andrew Milne said because the length of the stay was shortened his group isn’t sure if they still want to fill the lease.

Skyward Hospitality, based in Lake Placid, will manage the 93-room hotel currently being built on Lake Flower Avenue. In a previous interview, Milne said the hope is to finish construction within this. According to its website, it also offers services to developers in planning and financing their projects, as well as to property owners in maximizing short-term rental revenue.
