Ties delay choice of Saranac Lake school board leaders

SARANAC LAKE — Tied votes for president and vice president of the Saranac Lake Board of Education have delayed the decision.

At Wednesday’s board meeting there were six members in attendance: Rick Retrosi, Jeremy Evans, Clyde Baker, Nancy Bernstein, Jeff Branch and Aurora White. Only Mike McCreadie was absent, and it made all the difference.

The elections of president and vice president were among several other items on the agenda. But the current president, Retrosi, and vice president, Evans, each had someone else vying for their positions on the board: White for president and Bernstein for vice president.

With three votes for each candidate, the election was paused until another vote could be made at the next meeting, which is to be on July 24 at 5:50 p.m. in the Saranac Lake High School library. Until then, Retrosi was voted acting president, continuing his previous role.
