Man jailed for alleged assaults

LAKE PLACID — A local man was jailed after police say he committed several acts of violence, including two against a woman who had a judge’s order of protection against him.

State Police said they responded to a domestic dispute around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday on Dandelion Way, off Old Military Road. Troopers said Kyle L. Wilkerson, 20, of Wilmington had showed up at the property without permission, damaged a vehicle in the driveway by keying it and breaking a window, and then entered the home and engaged in an altercation with a man and a woman inside. Police say he hit and choked the woman, struck the man with some kind of blunt object and menaced both of them with a shovel.

The man and the woman suffered cuts and bruises and were treated at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, according to police.

Police said Wilkerson fled the scene and that they later took him into custody without incident.

Upon further investigation, police said they learned that Wilkerson was involved in a dispute with the same woman two days earlier in the village of Lake Placid, in which he choked her, hit her in the face and broke her cellphone.

He also violated an active order of protection a judge had issued to protect her from him, police said.

He was charged with four felonies — first-degree burglary, aggravated criminal contempt, second-degree assault and third-degree criminal mischief — as well as third-degree assault and second-degree menacing, misdemeanors.

Wilkerson was arraigned in Lake Placid Village Court and remanded to the Essex County Jail in Lewis in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bail bond. He remained there as of late Wednesday morning.
