AG’s office hosts gun buy-back in Plattsburgh

PLATTSBURGH — The state attorney general’s office, collaborating with the Plattsburgh City Police Department, is holding a no-questions-asked community gun buy-back on Thursday.

The buy-back will be held at the Crete Memorial Civic Center, 2 Beach Road in Plattsburgh, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 18.

The office is paying $25 each for non-working or antique firearms, $50 for rifles and shotguns, $75 for handguns and $100 for assault weapons. Payment will be made by prepaid debit card after each gun is screened by officers.

The AG office says guns must be unloaded and placed in a plastic or paper bag, or box. They can be transported in a car if they are in the trunk. Licensed gun dealers and active or retired law enforcement officers are not eligible.

No questions are asked of the person dropping off the firearm.
