SARANAC LAKE — An auction for two lots of village land between Saranac Lake Baptist Church and Taylor Rental on Broadway received one closed bid that village officials said, once again, was too low.

The auction was held at 4 p.m. Monday on the Harrietstown Town Hall steps. The properties, collectively known as 400 Broadway, went to auction at the end of November 2018 and received a similarly too low bid — from the same bidder, Taylor Rental. Village officials would not disclose the amount.

“The price submitted would adversely affect the possibility of the next auction,” village Mayor Clyde Rabideau said. “We’re going to have a third auction.”

The minimum bid for this auction was $125,000. Rabideau said the minimum for the next auction will be $75,000. He added that the next auction will be within the next 30 to 45 days.

One of the lots has an environmental easement on its use, placed after contaminants were found on site.
