PAUL SMITHS — The state Department of Environmental Conservation announced last week that its annual certification of lifeguards for employment at public facilities will begin early next year.

The DEC hires lifeguards for public campgrounds and day-use areas, and individuals must be 16 or older. Candidates must have lifeguard certification, pass the DEC test and have adequate vision before a job may be offered.

Qualifying events will take place around the Adirondacks from January through June next year. Tests will be held in Gloversville, Amsterdam, Glens Falls and twice at Paul Smith’s College, on March 24 and June 9.
