DEC campground ambassador program continues

The state Department of Environmental Conservation has announced the campgrounds in the Adirondacks and Catskills that will have Campground Ambassadors stationed at them.

The Campground Ambassador program was started in the summer of 2018, with the idea being that more experienced campers would act as ambassadors for individual campgrounds, showing newer campers the ropes.

“Volunteer Campground Ambassadors support DEC campground staff in welcoming and assisting the millions of visitors that vacation in the Adirondack and Catskill parks each year,” a press release said.

Ambassadors are expected to serve for two weeks, and will receive a free campsite in exchange.

In the Adirondacks, Cranberry Lake, Fish Creek Pond, Frontier Town Campground, Equestrian & Day Use Area, Lewey Lake, Moffitt Beach, Nicks Lake, Rogers Rock, and Rollins Pond Campground will be home to ambassadors. In the Catskills, volunteers will be at Kenneth L. Wilson and North South Lake campgrounds.
