Addiction forum at SLHS Monday

SARANAC LAKE — A forum at the local high school is intended to help provide education about addiction and treatment in the community, including the topics of vaping, alcohol and opiates.

Franklin County Community Services, treatment agencies, citizens of the Tri-Lakes and representatives from local government are hosting “A Community Discussion about Addiction” from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Monday in the Saranac Lake High School auditorium, free and open to all.

The featured speaker is Mike Nerney, a nationally recognized expert and lecturer on substance abuse prevention and education. He has served as a consultant for two major television networks, has appeared on ABC’s “20/20” and is known for his educational and inspirational presentations. He will be joined by a local parent who has experienced the devastating effects of addiction in his own family, and a recovering addict who will provide insights and answers to questions from members of the audience. The master of ceremonies for the event will be Diane Fox, superintendent for the Saranac Lake Central School District.
