SARANAC LAKE — The sale of the Saranac Lake Women’s Civic Chamber community cookbook, “A Taste of Saranac Lake,” appears to be selling fast.

Newly released in late October, the organization is already gifting profits from sales of the book to local nonprofits and community programs. The Winter Carnival Committee and Holiday Helpers each recently received $500 in support through the WCC mini-grant program.

The Women’s Civic Chamber’s fundraising efforts make it possible for the group to support nonprofits and community programs such as the Youth Center, Skate Park, After Prom Party, High Peaks Hospice, Saranac Lake Free Library, Dewey Mountain Recreation Center, Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department, Holiday Helpers, and Winter Carnival Committee, as well as a High School Senior Scholarship award and a Middle School essay contest each year.

WCC was founded in 1955, and over the last 10 years alone, the organization has gifted more than $43,000 back to the community of Saranac Lake and touched the lives of each of its residents in some way.

“A Taste of Saranac Lake” will be available for purchase at the 34th annual Sparkle Village Holiday Craft Show taking place on Friday, Nov. 30, and Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Harrietstown Town Hall. The books sell for $15 each, and in addition to Sparkle Village, they can also be purchased by mailing a check (include $5 shipping) to WCC Cookbook, PO Box 761, Saranac Lake, NY 12983, or at the following local businesses: Hyde Fuel, Janie’s for Hair, Downhill Grill, HomEnergy, Studio 30 Hair Salon, and Scott’s Florist. Also, back by popular demand, the Women’s Civic Chamber will offer their traditional raffle baskets at this event. This year’s basket themes include: Christmas Treats, Lottery, White, Black and Red, Nut Cracker, Spa, and Sports.
