Overnight street parking bans are in effect

TUPPER LAKE — Overnight parking bans are in effect in Tri-Lakes villages, keeping cars off the streets in the mornings when plows are clearing roads.

Tupper Lake police Chief Eric Proulx said there is a village-wide ordinance for no parking on any street between 2 and 6 a.m. from Nov. 15 to April 15, backed by a $25 ticket.

The same dates and times apply to Saranac Lake.

Lake Placid’s overnight street parking ban lasts a little longer, from Nov. 1 to April 30.

Tupper Lake village Trustee Leon LeBlanc asked for Tupper Lakers to park on side streets in the mornings after snowstorms to give the village Department of Public Works time to pick up and remove snow.

“If you see us picking snow up in the morning, give us a chance, especially on the main drags. Try to park on a side street,” LeBlanc said. “Give us a chance to finish picking up. It’s hard to come back after.”

Proulx said there were complaints after the last snowstorm because a plow was not able to plow Park Street. That’s because people had parked to go to restaurants early. The street was messy for a while. The state plows Park Street because it is state highway until Wawbeek Avenue.
