North Elba increases Transfer Station rates
LAKE PLACID — Rates for dumping garbage at the North Elba Transfer Station have increased.
At Tuesday night’s meeting the North Elba town board set up a new rate schedule for the transfer station. Town Supervisor Roby Politi said the increases come after a $300,000 investment in a new trash compactor and transfer trucks for Essex County. He said other dumping sites, such as the Moriah Transfer Station, have also increased its rates.
The tipping fees at the North Elba Transfer Station have increased to 9 cents per pound for all loads weighing 80 pounds or more. The per-pound rate equates to an increase from $160 a ton to $185 a ton.
The minimum charge for all loads less than 80 pounds increased from a flat rate of $6 to $7.
The $10 and $20 punch cards have been replaced with a single $15 card. Anybody who still has $10 or $20 punch cards can either get them reimbursed at the North Elba Town Hall or continue to use them until Dec. 31.
The new $15 punch cards will allow the holder to dispose of 10 bags of garbage of any size up to but not to exceed a 40-gallon bag size.
