Rock Climbing Rendezvous coming this weekend

LAKE PLACID — The Adirondack Rock Climbing Rendezvous will return to the area this coming weekend for three days of climbing, clinics and camaraderie.

Starting Friday, there will be parties, live music, lectures and climbing clinics around the Lake Placid area, with evening events at the North Elba Show Grounds. Colin Loher, a climbing guide with High Peaks Mountain Guides, said in a press release that the event is a way to engage the climbing community.

“At its core, the Adirondack Rock Climbing Rendezvous is a celebration of this region’s natural resources,” Loher wrote. “The organizers of the Rendezvous would like to draw attention to the newly formed Adirondack Climbing Coalition. One of the main goals of the newly formed coalition is to protect this regions natural climbing resources.”

Loher said there will also be a focus on how climbers help protect the Adirondacks, including through peregrine falcon monitoring, trail projects and practicing the ethics of the Leave No Trace program.

“As a local guide service, we would like to promote safe and sound climbing practices. To this end, the Rendezvous is offering a number of clinics run by experienced veteran, local NYS and AMGA [American Mountain Guides Association] rock climbing guides,” Loher added. “[The Rendezvous will] provide a fun way for the general public better understand what [Adirondack] climbing is about and to help bolster support for our newly formed ACC.”

Registration for some of the events closes on Wednesday this week.
