TUPPER LAKE — State police officers were in town last Wednesday to do free car seat checks for parents at the village Emergency Services building.

Troop B public information Officer Jennifer Fleishman said the car seat check event was organized because many people from the Tupper Lake community pushed for the troop to do the event in town. Usually Troop B does monthly car seat checks at the headquarters in Ray Brook on the second Wednesday of the month.

The officers inspected car seats, checking their expiration dates and if the seat is the right size for the child’s height and weight. Fleishman also said they advise parents that if a car seat has been in a car accident that they should always get a new one. If a car seat is not up to par, the officers give the parents a replacement car seat for free, and will even install it themselves. The event started at 3 p.m. and by around 5:30 p.m. the officers had given seven car seats to families.

Fleishman said the troop also does house calls, and to request a car seat check or a full event to call 518-897-2023.
