Stefanik’s campaign staffers report harassment to police

Campaign staff for U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-Willsboro, have reported several cases of harassment in the past week, according to police.

On July 24, Alex deGrasse, campaign manager for Stefanik, filed a complaint with the Saratoga Springs police department about some posters left on his door, according to Sergeant Paul Veitch of the city investigations division.

“There’s a harassment case on file with us,” Veitch said.

Veitch said as the investigation was ongoing, he could not go into the details of the posters, but it was connected to deGrasse’s work on the campaign.

In a possibly unrelated incident, a campaign staffer for Stefanik filed a police report last week about harassing text messages, according to the Plattsburgh Police Department.

“I handled a complaint from one of Elise Stefanik’s staffers,” Patrol Officer Connor Kowalowski said.

Kowalowski said the staffer came in about a week ago and did not want anything done beyond filing a report, in case things escalated. Kowalowski said the text messages were not threatening.

“They were just strange in nature,” Kowalowski said.

He said he could not provide too many details about an investigation, but said the texts were so strange as to be difficult to describe.

Lenny Alcivar, Stefanik’s campaign manager, did not return multiple requests for comment on Friday afternoon.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation field office in Albany and the office of the House Sergeant at Arms, which deals with some threats to congressional representatives, said they could neither confirm nor deny any investigation into harassment of Stefanik’s campaign staff.
