SARANAC LAKE — A sprinkler system in the Hotel Saranac broke this past weekend, sending water down Academy Street.

That wasn’t the only local freeze-up; others reported to the Enterprise include Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake and Great Adirondack Steak and Seafood in Lake Placid.

Two trucks and eight members of the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department responded to the Hotel Saranac at 2:40 p.m. Saturday. The crew investigated the sprinkler system and found a broken water line. The case was handed over to local code enforcement.

A neighbor provided a photo that showed water pouring around the corner and down the middle of Academy Street by the hotel’s parking garage.

Neither the owner nor the manager of the hotel could be reached for comment as of press this morning.

The Hotel Saranac is expected to open sometime this month, according to a previous statement by General Manager Michael Salyers. A gala is scheduled for Jan. 20 as a fundraiser for Historic Saranac Lake. The $100 tickets sold out in a matter of hours.
