DEC offering hunting and trapping safety courses
The state Department of Environmental Conservation is reminding first-time hunters and trappers that a safety course must be completed before a hunting license can be purchased.
The DEC said in a press release that about 45,000 people take hunter safety courses in New York each year.
“DEC’s Sportsman Education Program is effective in producing safe, ethical hunters, and we are grateful to the volunteer instructors that serve as the backbone to deliver our program,” DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos said in the release. “I encourage all prospective hunters to sign-up early for one of the hundreds of courses offered all across New York.”
The safety courses require homework prior to the actual class, which will be taught by a certified safety instructor.
